Annabel Croft has told The Tennis Space that Kim Sears has been “so supportive” to her boyfriend Andy Murray over the years. “I’m sure it helps that Kim has been there from the beginning,” said Croft, who said that Murray’s victory will not change him, even though “everyone is going to want a piece of him”.

Croft, who is commentating for British Eurosport on this weekend’s Davis Cup ties, on Kim Sears: “Kim has been so supportive. I don’t really know them that well as a couple, but I’m sure this has strengthened their relationship. I’m sure it helps that Kim has been there from the beginning, when Andy was just coming out of the juniors and playing tournaments below tour level.”

Croft on whether Murray will be changed by his win: “Everyone is going to want a piece of him. But Andy’s not into razzmatazz, into being a celebrity. He’s not interested in that. It’s going to be an exciting time – he’s going to be offered lots of contracts – but I don’t think he’s going to change at all, and that’s great, people will like that. I think he is interested in his place in history, though. He made an interesting remark in New York – this was before he won the US Open – when he said he had been thinking about his place in the history books before he won the Olympics. I think that was an interesting insight into his fears and concerns.
.
“But then Andy won the Olympics, and it seemed as though something lifted. He’s not angry on the court now. There used to be so much anger on court. But that’s gone now. He’s got older, he’s matured and he looks at ease with himself on the court now. I think the tears at Wimbledon – after he lost to Federer – helped too. Andy has always wanted to let his tennis to do the talking – he wasn’t going to behave in a certain way because that’s how people expected him to – and now he’s a grand slam champion and it’s great to see.”
