Exclusive: Chris Evert has told The Tennis Space that Laura Robson has the talent to break into the top five in the world rankings and possibly win a grand slam title:
Evert on Robson: ”It’s time for Britain to celebrate, and to stop being so negative. You’ve got Andy Murray and Laura Robson had a dynamite tournament at the US Open. In a couple of years, she could be in the top five. What impressed me so much was that she was fearless and consistent. It’s easy to be fearless and to spray balls around. But she was fearless, and she kept her levels of consistency so high. For three matches – against Clijsters, Li Na and then Stosur – she was playing top-10 tennis. We’ve seen a lot of young girls have one big win at a tournament and then fizzle out in the next round. That didn’t happen with Robson.
“She’s tall, she moves well and she’s the best player that Britain has had in years. If she gets to the top five, she will be capable of winning a slam. I wouldn’t bet my life on it – I’m not making a bold prediction and saying it will definitely happen – but it’s definitely possible.”
